POEMS BY ZAKARIA ABD HAKIM CISSE
TILL WHEN?
'til when
Shall we wait under the sky
To please the heartless sun 'til when
Shall we wait on the road
Before our bowls will be filled 'til when
Will we leave the mountain-top
Before the skies will smile on us 'til when
Will the key to the future
Be given us - so, we may glance at least, small at our fate. 'til when... until when, shall we stop singing 'now the day is over...
' Like bondsmen taken
Aboard for sacrifce
To their wordly deities.
& O! I wonder & wander in my thoughts of the puzzles unsolved
Maybe they were meant - never to be solved or it is just me [& you]
Waiting for the saviour
To look us in the eye
At least, just a glance - of mercy &
'til my puzzling thoughts are solved [at least, small]
I ask you O comrade: 'til when
Shall we wait no more
For the Messiah or Mahdi
'Til when
Shall Jack Sparrow reassemble this ship & sail us for the treasure waiting
- somewhere afar.
BEYOND THE SKIN
Beyond the skin;
Beyond the Subcutaneous layer;
There is no black
There is no white – nor blue.
Beyond our social fragmentation,
There is no race
No clan, no ethnicity.
The sun shines upon all
Not in favour of colour
Nor status quo
Its radiance fills the atmosphere – everywhere.
We are a one entity, beautifully carved by
God – Almighty If only we knew.
Let go your machete and guns and bows
As free as the bird floats on the wings – of the sky, let’s live harmoniously
Devoid of race and colour.
Beyond the skin,
There is, but a human
Made of cells, tissues, organs & systems.
Thank you, mom.
